Professional Membership

The Society has a professional wing and Full Members may apply for the status of Certified Statistician (CertStat). A good university degree, or equivalent, in statistics, or the Graduate Diploma of the Society, together with at least five years' experience in a statistical job, will be required. Anyone with the necessary academic qualification for CertStat, but less than five years' experience, may apply for the status of Graduate Statistician (GradStat).

Professional members (CertStat, GradStat) of the Society are members with full voting rights in elections for the Council and Committee members. A table of all subscription rates and relevant membership application forms are available in this site.

The attention of professional members is drawn to the Society’s Code of Conduct.

Certified Statistician

The HKSS had reached the following agreement with the American Statistical Association (ASA):
“Anyone who receives HKSS’s CStat accreditation will, upon application to the American Statistical Association, be automatically granted ASA PStat status, provided that such individuals maintain their membership in HKSS.”

To be considered for the qualification of Certified Statistician (CertStat), at least one of the following four criteria must be met.

A good University Degree and/or an appropriate Higher Degree in Statistics or in a subject containing a substantial coverage of statistical theory, method and practice in Hong Kong, plus five years' practical experience in applying statistics. (Some university courses, particularly at postgraduate level, may be eligible to count towards this practical experience.)

An appropriate Overseas Degree (in some cases a Master Degree will be the appropriate level) in Statistics or in a subject containing a substantial coverage of statistical theory, method and practice in Hong Kong, plus five years' practical experience in applying statistics. (Some university courses, particularly at postgraduate level, may be eligible to count towards this practical experience.)

The Graduate Diploma of the Hong Kong Statistical Society, plus four years' practical experience in applying statistics.

At least ten years practical experience in applying statistics at a responsible level together with acceptable evidence of knowledge, competence and contributions to the subject and its applications.

Graduate Statistician

Those individuals who have the necessary academic requirements to qualify as Certified Statisticians but who do not have the relevant practical experience may apply for the qualification of Graduate Statistician (GradStat).
