The Annual General Meeting (AGM) for the 2010/11 Session of the HKSS will be
held on 25 March 2011 (Friday) at 6:15 p.m. at the Immigration Officers
Mess, 20/F, Immigration Tower, 7 Gloucester Road, Wan Chai, Hong Kong. A
Chinese style dinner will be held after the AGM. Members are welcome to
bring along their guests to the dinner.

The United Nations will celebrate the first World Statistics Day (http://unstats.un.org/unsd/wsd/)
on Wednesday 20 October 2010. In addition to supporting other
celebration activities in Hong Kong, the Society is organizing an
academic seminar ¡§An Unexpected Journey to the Converse of Bayes
Theorem¡¨. The speaker is Professor NG Kai Wang of HKU, Head of
Statistics and Actuarial Science. Following the academic seminar,
there will be a commemorative dinner with some sharing in between,
which is jointly organized by the Society and the Census and
Statistics Department, for gathering Society members and guests to
celebrate this occasion. Please click

The Hong Kong Statistical Society, the Census and Statistics Department, the
Education Bureau and the Department of Statistics and Actuarial Science of
the University of Hong Kong will hold a public lecture on ¡§Widening the
Scope of General Knowledge Recognising the Fallacies of Statistics¡¨ on 20
October 2010. The lecture is one of the main activities in Hong Kong to
celebrate the first World Statistics Day. Key information of the public

The Department of Statistics and Actuarial Science of the University of Hong
Kong is organizing an international conference "Nonlinear Time Series:
Threshold Modelling and Beyond" in honour of Professor Howell Tong for his
pioneering and foundational work in non-linear time series on 17-19 December
2009.
There will be about 30 overseas speakers, including many top-ranking
researchers in time series, for the conference. Among them will be a member
of the US National Academy of Sciences, two Fellows of the Royal Society,
three Academicians of the Academia Sinica, two Fellows of the British
Academy, a Fellow of the Australian Academy, two members of the Norwegian
Academy of Science and Letters (one being the President-elect) and numerous

The Department of Statistics and the Institute of Mathematical Sciences of
the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) are jointly organizing an
International Workshop on Statistics and its Interface on 16 December 2009.
A number of renowned statisticians from the world, including Professor
Howell Tong, the ex-President and honorary member of HKSS, will serve as the

29 Oct 2009 To let interested parties understand more about HKSS examination, a seminar
cum certificate presentation ceremony will be held in the evening of 29th
October 2009 (Thursday). In the seminar, we would brief you about the recent
developments of the examinations and accreditations. In particular, the
Graduate Diploma examination syllabus will be fully changed to one with five
modules in 2010. Moreover, senior lecturers of several tertiary institutions
would introduce to you about relevant statistics courses in their
institutions in the seminar. Participants are also welcomed to raise

has joined the Department of Applied Mathematics and the School of
Accounting and Finance of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University to organize a
public lecture by Professor Sir Clive Granger, Nobel Laureate in Economics
