The Society provides a forum for practising statisticians in Hong Kong to exchange research findings and opinions in advancing knowledge and enhancing appreciation of the theory and application of statistics. It has about 300 members, mainly comprising training and/or research professionals and students in institutions, government statisticians, and people having keen interest in the development of statistics. It also offers the professional qualification of Certified Statistician (CStat) and a range of examinations. There are three main types of membership available, Full Member, Student Member and Corporate Member. The Society also has a professional wing and Full Member may apply for the status of Certified Statistician. A good university degree, or equivalent, in statistics, or the Graduate Diploma of the Society, together with at least five years' experience in a statistical job, will be required. Anyone with the necessary academic level for CStat, but less than five years' experience, may apply for the qualification of Graduate Statistician (GradStat). Those wishing to register for the Society's examinations may apply for Full Membership, Student Membership, or alternatively apply for membership as an Examination Associate. Full MemberFull membership is open to all who have an interest in statistics and have the following qualifications:-
Candidates for Full Membership are normally proposed by two Full Members, and nominations are approved by the Council of the Society. The Society may elect a person as an Honorary Member of the Society, in recognition of his/her outstanding contributions to statistics or its applications or to the Society. Student MemberThis category of membership is open to students undertaking courses in statistics or related subjects. Examination AssociateCandidates for the Society's examinations must either become a Full Member/Student Member, or join as an Examination Associate. Examination Associates receive the same benefits as that of Full Member except voting rights. Examination Associates do not have to be nominated by two Full Members. Corporate MemberThe Council of the Society may elect any corporate body or institution to be Corporate Member. A Corporate Member shall be entitled to nominate a person to represent it, subject to approval of the Council of the Society of the person so nominated. Only Full Members, Professional Members and Honorary Members shall have the right to vote at any meeting of the Society. |
